VILLA SANT’ANDREA

Nestled along the picturesque bay of Taormina, the Belmond Villa Sant'Andrea stands as a timeless hotel of luxury and sophistication, situated on the waterfront it offers panoramic views of the Ionian Sea, a prestigious destination steeped in history and exuding timeless charm. Now it stands as a testament to refined Mediterranean living, where every moment is infused with tranquility.

FIRST LOOK

The little sister of Grand Hotel Timeo, Sant’Andrea subdues a less serious, more flirtatious and airier persona. Situated at the bottom of Taormina Bay, with direct access to the beach and ocean, this elegant Mediterranean-style building surrounded by terraced gardens and palm trees exudes ‘old world glamour’ tempered by 21st-century features. The locations of the Belmond hotels are in a class by themselves, the setting alone makes them almost unbeatable. Add that to impeccable service and breathtaking aesthetics and you can see how their reputation is unmatched.

STEP INSIDE

Stepping straight into ornate furnishings, marble floors and graceful archways, the interior immediately exudes a classic charm; chandeliers cast a warm glow over the common areas,  the minimalist corridors are brought to life by pops of artwork and the personalised Belmond scent fills the air - giving fresh, expensive vibes.

The lounge area, bar, fitness centre, small boutique and stylish restaurant feel more like a private residence than a hotel. Treat yourself to a massage or sauna at the on-site spa area. If you’re easily tempted by luxury swimwear, stay away from the on-site boutique, they have so many beautiful pieces.

If the rooms are anything like Grand Hotel Timeo, expect to be embraced with comfort, glamour and dreamy sea views. If you’re an ocean lover, this might be the perfect hotel for you in contrast to Timeo’s Mount Etna backdrop. Read our Grand Hotel Timeo review here so you can decide.

POOLSIDE + PRIVATE BEACH

The infinity pool was the crown jewel of the hotel. Offering breathtaking panoramas that serve as the perfect place to spend sun-kissed days overlooking Taormina Bay, watching as private boats and yachts sail into shore. Complete with a small bar where you are waited on around the clock, you’ll never get thirsty.

With privileged access to the powdery pebbles of their private beach adorned with picturesque white umbrellas on a secluded stretch of shoreline, you can lie on luxurious loungers or cabanas all day long. Waiters are on hand to arrange anything from relaxing massages to a fresh fish lunch throughout the day, ensuring a serene and uncrowded experience.

If you’re a guest, take advantage of the complimentary boat tour. Jump aboard a traditional Sicilian fishing boat where you can see the Blue Grotto, Isola Bella and Cape Taormina or if you prefer to be in the water rather than on it, paddle boarding is a favourite pastime among locals in Sicily, so stand on a surfboard and propel yourself through the stunning waters of Mazzaro Bay.

In the evening, the private beach at Belmond Villa Sant'Andrea transforms into a magical setting for evening cocktails and romantic strolls with the most stunning views to watch the sunset over the bay.

DINING

Brizza is up there with one of the most unique fine dining experiences in Taormina, with only six tables exclusively for two. Barefoot dining from the À la carte menu is encouraged al fresco on Mazzaro’s beach providing an intimate atmosphere (probably better for couples, yet here we are). It’s a truly memorable experience and one we highly recommend.

Ristorante Sant'Andrea sets the stage for a memorable dining experience, resting on its exclusive shoreline, this traditional venue serves an a la carte menu filled with dishes from land and sea or for a more chilled vibe, Brace at Bar Sant'Andrea is perfect for sundown cocktails, jazz and irresistible small plates from the grill.

We love nothing more than a vacation splurge however, this is definitely a high-priced menu. We’ll try anything once (if only to take notes and pass them on to you) and this al fresco experience is worth every penny.

INSIDE INTEL

The hotel runs a complimentary shuttle every 30 minutes up to its sister hotel, Belmond Grand Timeo Hotel (which we reviewed here) in the centre of Taormina so there’s no need to worry about transport. A cable car can also be taken which is just 2 minutes away from the hotel if you want to experience stunning Birdseye views of the bay.

Book in advance for restaurant reservations at Villa Sant’Andrea in the summer months as these experiences get fully booked quickly.

The beach is mainly pebbled.

There is no shortage of ways to unwind and embrace the laid-back Sicilian lifestyle. For our full Inside Guide to Taormina, including where to eat, what to see and what to wear see here
