Copenhagen: cafe spots

If there’s one thing Copenhagen know how to do well, it’s cafe culture. Whether you’re looking for delicious Danish pastries, good coffee or the perfect matcha, Copenhagen has you covered. See the list below for our favourite cafe spots in Copenhagen.

Known for having the best cardamom buns in the city, Juno is one of Copenhagen’s most popular bakeries and comes highly recommended by the locals. Like most places in Copenhagen, Juno uses organic ingredients. Set in the East in the Østerbro neighbourhood, Juno has a minimal, laidback vibe with the real focus being on their food. Pick up the sourdough buns with butter and cheese - so simple but so good. A lot of the pastries can sell out quickly due to high demand which tells you all you need to know about this place.

With multiple locations around the city to choose from, Hart is famous for its delicious pastries, baked goods and freshly baked bread. Order the chocolate croissant - one of the best we’ve had (still dream about it daily). Be prepared to queue but this place is definitely worth the wait.

A cute little cafe serving everything from breakfast, lunch and home-made cakes. Located in Rådhusstræde with a new location that opened last May in Frederiksberg Alle, Sonny is also a great place to work from your laptop or people-watch whilst sitting outside and dining al fresco in the warmer months. We visited the Rådhusstræde location which we loved - great decor, even better coffee and a traditional Danish breakfast of a soft-boiled egg, bun with butter and cheese and freshly-pressed juice make Sonny a neighbourhood favourite.

A small organic cafe and bakery in Refshaleøen, Lille transports you to the countryside with its chic farmhouse aesthetic and local produce. The menu is seasonal but you can always find freshly baked sourdough bread and fan favourites such as the sausage rolls. The bakery also transforms into a cosy bistro on Friday and Saturday nights. Make sure to add Lille to your itinerary because what’s better than an Instaworthy spot that also serves amazing food?!

You’ve probably heard of this place by now and it’s no surprise. With three locations, Atelier September serves everything from breakfast, lunch and cakes to warm and cold drinks. You could order everything from the breakfast menu as it’s all so good but you can’t go to Atelier September without trying the blueberry pancakes, they’re very much worth the hype. They also do a great matcha which can often be hard to find. Be warned, they don’t take reservations and it can get busy, especially on the weekends but the reward at the end makes it worth the wait.

With a coffee shop & roastery, an artisan bakery and another coffee shop & bakery under their belts, A&M has got you covered. The standouts are their pastries, in particular, the sourdough bun but the minimalistic Japanese-style interiors of their Nordhavn location make it a place of tranquillity to indulge in the finer things in life (the finer things being their chocolate croissant - sensational).

Another great brunch spot - Apotek is a little neighbourhood eatery set within the Frama Studio Store offering a selection of baked goods, seasonal breakfast and lunch along with freshly pressed juices and coffee. Once you’re finished with your meal, take a look at the cool designs in the Frama design showroom. The blend of stunning interiors combined with a delicious menu makes Apotek an authentic Copenhagen gem and a real place for the senses.

Probably the most attractive croissant we have ever seen if that’s even a thing? It almost looked too good to eat. Nørreboro

10/10 for pastries, shouldn’t expect much less from the Dane’s

If you’re looking for a good brunch spot, Ø12 is the place to go. Located in the Østerbro neighbourhood, Ø12 have perfected their menu making you spoilt for choice. Ø12 is a go-to if you’re looking for more of a substantial meal or to order multiple things to share so you can try a bit of everything as it’s all so good. We recommend the smashed avo on sourdough toast - so simple yet so complex and they have nailed it.

Another spot that serves great coffee and pastries (you can’t go wrong in Copenhagen). Hidden away in Rantzausgade, an area of Norrebro, Darcy’s speciality is its coffee with beans sourced from the best roasters around the world. The space itself has a cosy ambience and feels like you are in a cool Copenhagen apartment. Perfect for working, reading and taking a much-needed breather while exploring the city.

Studio X Kitchen

A small cafe from the design store Studio X (hence the name). If you think you know eggs, you know nothing until you’ve tried the folded eggs from Studio X Kitchen - trust us, we never knew eggs could taste so good.

Prolog is a coffee bar in the cool and creative Meatpacking District in Vesterbro and on Randersgade in Østerbro. It’s a speciality coffee roaster and shop known for its high-quality coffee and cosy atmosphere. Their focus is on delivering their customers a better coffee experience and their ethos shows. An understated, no-frills kind of place - this is the one to come to if you’re simply looking for good coffee.

Set within the Louise Roe Gallery, The Roe Bar serves breakfast, lunch and sweets. As you can imagine, the interiors are extremely aesthetic with a contemporary feel and the food is incredible. The yoghurt with homemade granola and fresh berries is so good.
