Rome : rooftop rendezvous

There are endless rooftops in Rome to choose from that all offer breath-taking views of the Eternal City, so we made a list of the best rooftops in Rome(in our opinion) to see the city from the sky - for the best vibes and stunning views . Take your evening to new heights baby.

The place where the cool cats of Rome unite and sip on Picantes all year round. The aesthetic is stunning and the Soho House signature striped cabanas around the rooftop pool really elevate the whole vibe - in the summer months, the atmosphere here is electric. Catch a Sound Sessions here for a chilled music vibe or for a groovier time, most other nights DJ’s play 10/10 tunes up here until late with stunning views over the city.

Located at one of Rome’s most coveted addresses on the top floor of Hotel de la Ville is Cielo. Not only is it one of the most glamorous rooftop bars to sip creative cocktails in all of Rome, but it’s also one of the best places to take in the romantic dome-studded skyline of beautiful Roma. The space is intimate and reservations are limited, so this spot always has an air of exclusivity where you can enjoy magical sunsets matched to the beats of their eclectic DJ whilst sipping colourful and fruity cocktails. Perfectly situated for sunny days and dazzling nights.

Located on the top floor of the stunning W hotel, you’ll find panoramic views of both the city, complete with a beautiful rooftop pool, bubble bar aperavito and poolside cocktails. Sprawl on patterned cabanas and dusty pink loungers surrounded by a carefully curated selection of potted plants - think Marrakesh meets Barcelona. We also found that this is definitely a hotspot for cool and stylish locals - a very sociable crowd on the right day. One of a favourite spots in Rome.

Set on top of the iconic Palazzo Fendi, Zuma Rome covers two entire floors, with both a stylish indoor restaurant and a beautiful rooftop terrace. The mood peaks on the 5th floor Zuma Bar and Lounge, which offers one of Rome’s most impressive vantage points. From here, have a nightcap of cocktails and sake whilst overlooking glimpses of the Vatican City. Head to the rooftop for the centre stage experience and stay until the early hours, where the atmosphere is vibing and the crowd is cool and stylish.

Located along the banks of the Tiber River, The First Musica hotel invites you to a modern, stylish rooftop experience. Set across three floors, Alto is both a restaurant and a cocktail bar complete with stylish interiors (think velvet stools and marble bar) and panoramic terraces capturing stunning 360° views over Rome. We stopped by for midday aperitifs but their inventive cocktail bar and attentive waiters had us sipping their gin cocktails all night long. It’s a relaxed vibe, with DJ’s playing tracks across multiple eras which really sets the tone of the night and makes you not want to leave.

Lungotevere dei Mellini, 26, Rome Italy

This iconic hotel in Rome, is tucked away behind Piazza Navona but it’s unique exterior is adorned with ivy covering the entirety of the building so it’s hard to miss. On the rooftop, you will find a small but perfectly-formed terrace which overlooks the iconic rooftops of Rome’s historic centre.

Sip on Prosecco and Aperols at this romantic and peaceful spot and breathe in the authentic atmosphere for a more chilled rooftop ambiance. If this place was good enough for Julia Roberts who stayed while filming Eat, Pray, Love, its good enough for us.

Ok so technically this isn’t a rooftop but it is definitely worth a mention. An oasis hidden in the midst of the city offering contemporary and classic cocktails. In the courtyard of the Hotel De Russie, one of the most beautiful hotels in Rome, set within an outdoor patio in the centre of the hotel you’ll find this chic spot to enjoy a spritz. Sip on a Stravinskij house punch whilst surrounded by huge poplar trees,     - this is a true fairytale-esque setting and when the lights go down in the evening, this place feels even more magical.

Aroma Restaurant is found at the luxurious Palazzo Manfredi, complete with an intimate roof terrace with magnified (and breath-taking) views of Colosseum. You can enjoy gourmet food from the Michelin restaurant or visit the lounge bar if you want to just sample the cocktails.

Head to Divinity for a mix of food, drinks and views. This sleek Rome rooftop comes with a stylish indoor restaurant, cosy lounge bar and a beautiful outdoor terrace, all unique spaces but connected in taste and style. Set six floors above some of Rome's most famous landmarks, here you get magical panoramics over the historic rooftops, with the close by and iconic Pantheon as a mighty focal point.

Floating above the heart of Rome on top of the Palazzo Navona Hotel is Terrazza Navona. This intimate, charming and beautiful terrace opens to panoramic views over the most famous masterpieces of Rome. The space definitely encourages a chilled vibe complete with low wicker lounge chairs and sofas and a slow temp soundtrack. We would say its a great spot for a pre or post dinner drink more than a place to stay all night.
